Thomas F. Daughton
Thomas F. Daughton assumed his responsibilities as Deputy Chief of Mission in Algiers on 24 August 2006. Before arriving in Algeria, he was the Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Mr. Daughton joined the Foreign Service in 1989. His other overseas assignments have included Kingston, Jamaica (vice consul, 1989-1991); Rabat, Morocco (political officer, 1991-1993); and Thessaloniki, Greece (consul, 1997-2000).
From 1993-1997, he served in positions at the Department of State in Washington, D.C., including as country desk officer for the Philippines. From 2000-2003, Mr. Daughton was Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires (2001-2002) at the U.S. Embassy in Libreville, Gabon.
A native of Arizona, Mr. Daughton is a graduate of Amherst College and the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he was an associate at the New York office of the Sidley & Austin law firm.
Mr. Daughton is a recipient of numerous Meritorious and Superior Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of State, as well as of the W. Averell Harriman and Sinclair Awards from the American Foreign Service Association. He speaks French and Greek.
